Last night was all about the American Music Awards. It was also about Lizzo’s tiny purse, Post Malone’s cowboy hat and obviously, pop queen Taylor Swift, who snatched six awards.
We’re taking a moment to bow down to Taylor. After the year from hell battling Scooter Braun, she’s managed to come out on top, sitting pretty on a total of 29 AMA’s – goals. Imagine being named artist of the year AND the decade in one night? Ground-breaking.
Our fave Billie Eilish took home the new artist of the year and favourite alt rock artist, Khalid took home favourite male artist, favourite soul/R&B album and favourite soul/R&B song. Post Malone snatched favourite rap/hip-hop album and Bohemian Rhapsody won favourite film soundtrack. To say it was a satisfying night would be an understatement.
Naturally, we couldn’t resist choosing a few of our top looks from the red carpet. The looks were quirky, cute and super stylish, instead of the usual full-frontal glamour you’d expect from a red carpet – and we loved every second of it.
Things we can fit in this purse: our patience. Lizzo took the mini-bag trend to the extreme, paired with some Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino ruffles.
Only Post Malone could pull off a check black and white suit paired with a silver bolo tie and matching cowboy hat. And again, only in Post Malone’s acceptance speech, would he finish with ‘we love you very much and I love grapes.’
Taylor’s taking a moment away from the pastel hues of the Lover era and throwing it back to Reputation Taylor. This asymmetrical Julien Macdonald dress and thigh high boots makes it unsurprising that she’s the artist of the decade.

In true Billy Porter style, the look was couture menswear at its finest. A Thom Browne cape with a Stephen Jones hat is all anybody needs to steal the show.

Always satisfying us on red carpets by matching typically Nineties grunge with a little bit of glam. She wore head-to-toe Burberry, a diamante mask and heaps of Bulgari.
2019 is Maya Hawke’s year and there’s no better way to end the year than with a look as bomb as this. Her tousled waves with a gold crown was the perfect accompaniment to her sparkly Dior ball gown.

There isn’t one thing that we don't love about Dua Lipa’s look. Her hair, emerald necklace and Barbie-chic Miu Miu was the vision of pink we needed to get us through the day.

Kesha is here to embody the AMA’s dress code: go hard or go home. This is not the place for a standard LBD. If you’re not wearing head-to-toe Versace, what are you doing?
Aguilera always turns heads and this regal Jean Paul Gaultier gown is no exception to that rule. The embellished hood, accentuated shoulders and stacked necklaces threw us back to early Aguilera and we are HERE for it.
Ciara brought NINE looks last night. It’s hard to narrow it down, but two of her ensembles especially warmed our hearts - we’re talking about the Balmain cobalt blue power suit of dreams and the Georges Hobeika sparkly bodysuit.
Halsey hasn’t been playing around this year when it comes to award ceremonies. Last night, her dramatic Marc Jacobs dress and bright eye makeup was all she needed to look as heavenly as ever.
Crimson, crimson everywhere. The Rodarte gown, the eyeshadow and the pearls in her hair. We couldn’t ask for more from the 13 Reasons Why star.
