Get in loser, we’re going shopping…
2019 means one thing: the 15th birthday of the cult classic chick flick, MEAN GIRLS! In true NGO style, we want to celebrate what should have been a public bank holiday by looking back on the iconic fashion that the film gifted us with.
Mean Girls’ birth in 2004 wasn’t looking too hopeful. In the era of low-rise jeans, capri pants and dresses worn over jeans (?!?!), Mean Girls brought us the highs and the lows of mid-noughties fashion, and boy are there some fashion blunders.
Taking you through the top tier trends, let’s see how some styling techniques have been (rightfully) given the boot and thrown in the burn book, whilst others remain firm faves to this day.
All hail the slogan tee! 15 years later and it still bangs. Gretchen loves it, Regina loves it, and we LOVE it.
Remember when Dior released the ‘we should all be feminists’ tee and the fashion world went into meltdown? That is the mood for many years to come. All we have left to say is keep ‘em coming fast.
Nailing the slogan tee trend is easy. With oversized, shrunken and cropped styles, there’s an option for everyone. Are you more of a Regina George or Gretchen Wieners? Choose your fave tee below and the answer speaks for itself.

The noughties gave free reign to the mini skirt to THRIVE. The only rule being the shorter, the better. For the Plastics, a good skirt was the ultimate staple, cue ‘that is the ugliest effing skirt I’ve ever seen.’ A good skirt was essential, and if you didn’t know – you better get to know.
To live your best Plastic life and to ace the Wednesday dress code, try the pastel pink mini skirt. For the other side of Regina, check out the heart print frill skirt, or the side split for a less subtle declaration of thigh.

We’re not saying that it’s a look to live in your best friend’s XL Lacoste polo, but we are saying that you should take the oversized tee trend and run with it. The most versatile piece in your wardrobe, you can tuck them in or let them hang loose. When it comes to how much we all love an oversized tee, the limit does not exist.
NGO’s collection of oversized tees is forever growing, so don’t miss out. Check our our curve tees below, our angelic take, or shop our organic range HERE for a range of baggy and guilt-free oversized tees.

You saw it in the 90’s, you grew up with it in the noughties, and now you’re living in it. Check print ain’t going NOWHERE, honey. So. Fetch.
All that changes over the years is how you style the staple. Gretchen's low-rise cut and chunky belt may not be the one, and don’t even get us started on Cady’s hoody. The only thing keeping the check skirts in this picture fresh is Gretchen’s slogan tee and Karen's bouncy blow-dry.
With NGO having two variations of the check print skirt, you won’t have to waste any more time looking for the perfect skirt to tick this trend off your AW shopping list.
Janis Ian: the underdog, queen and painfully honest BFF we all need in our lives. What’s not to stan about a gal who knows exactly who she is and refuses to change for anybody? It’s final – from this day on, we’re channelling Janis Ian.
To perfect her look as well as flair, try layering either the tattoo print mesh top or our NEW IN print underneath a tee. For a more toned-down look, throw on our satin slip dress with chunky boots and you’re ready to hit the town. Or binge on Netflix and look badass whilst doing so and double up the dragon print with our tee and jogger set. And the days you’ve got nothing to wear? We’ve got that covered too.
