In light of the heart-breaking news that Netflix may be removing Gossip Girl from our screens, we decided to reflect on the season’s dreamy wardrobe.
Whether you’re more of a Blair, Serena, Vanessa or Jenny, the show blessed us with trends that will last a lifetime. Blair’s headbands and Serena’s cut-out dresses remain iconic to this day and we’re forever thankful for it.
We’ve rounded up our five favourite trends from the show below...
TULLE AND LACE
Juliet doesn’t live here anymore – season 4 episode 8
Tulle and lace are firm favourites, especially at this time of year. Party season calls for dedicating a special section of the wardrobe to everything and anything that resembles tulle, whether this is dresses, skirts or puff sleeves. We’re here for it.
Serena nailed the trend with a sleek AF gown. Who knew gun-metal grey and lace would be the chicest combo?
Christian Dior’s spring 2020 collection was all about the mesh underlay, just like Serena.

It girl happened one night – season 4 episode 15
It’s safe to say that blazers were a permanent fixture throughout Gossip Girl. From high school and internships, to uni and clubs, there really was a blazer for every occasion. The best thing about each one is that they had a twist – whether they were longline, metallic or padded for days, each was special in its own right.
One of our favourite blazer moments has got to be Blair’s metallic Balmain number. Sharp shoulders and crisp lapels are the way to any blazer-lover’s heart.
Zimmerman’s spring 2020 collection took inspiration from the elements of a classic blazer and transformed it into a super cute shirt dress, with rope fastening and graphic print.
New York, I love you, XOXO – season 6 episode 10
Muted pastel colours are taking over and we’re not mad about it. While it isn’t typically the go-to when it comes to occasion wear, Blair chose it as the colour of choice for her wedding to Chuck. If it’s good enough for Chuck Bass, it’s good enough for us – right?
Alice & Olivia’s spring 2020 collection took the baby blue trend and ran with it. Head-to-toe block colours never looked so good.
HOT UNDER THE COLLAR
In the realm of the basses – season 2 episode 14
When it comes to necklines in winter, there’s one rule: the higher the better. Blair will forever be the queen of the frilled neckline – the holy trinity of all collars. Styling lessons were brought left, right and centre throughout the six seasons and this frill collar cardigan with a tartan headband is just one of the many examples.
Temperley London showed everyone how it’s done. The key to surviving winter is clearly a high collar.
You’ve got Yale, season 2 episode 16
No matter the season, year or decade, check print has always been, and will always be, a look. It’s a safe purchase, because it’s sure to be a staple in everyone’s wardrobe for years to come. No matter how you style it, it’s stealing the show.
Blair took check print to new heights with her super sophisticated coat, showing that there’s no time for subtlety when it comes to checks.
Lee Matthews pre-fall 2020 collection showcased how checks should be the centrepiece of any look.
